Gavin Iacono Promoted to Tulare County Deputy Agricultural Commissioner

Gavin Iacono has been promoted to the position of Deputy Agricultural Commissioner by Tulare’s Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer, Marilyn Kinoshita.

Iacono, formerly a District Supervisor with the Ag Commissioner's office, will assume his new position June 7, 2010.

Gavin will be in charge of one of the department’s most-demanding positions that include fruit and vegetable inspection, quarantine compliance, export inspection, insect detection, vertebrate pest control, crop statistics, and the glassy-winged sharpshooter control program.

“Gavin has the experience that will help us face challenges ranging from complicated export work plans and exotic pest infestations,” Kinoshita said. “We congratulate Gavin and are confident that he will continue to serve our industry and the public with dedication.”

Gavin was raised in Visalia, and attended California State University, Fresno with a degree in Animal Science. He worked in production agriculture growing row crops, cattle and walnuts, as well as being a Pest Control Advisor. He became an Inspector with the Ag Commissioner's office in 2001, working in the Pesticide, Standards and Exclusion divisions.  In 2007, he was promoted to District Supervisor for the Lindsay and Strathmore areas.
