County Seeks to Fill Vacancies on New Local Appeals Board

The Tulare County Board of Supervisors is seeking interested individuals to fill five (5) vacant positions on the newly-created Tulare County Local Appeals Board. Members shall be qualified by experience and training to rule upon matters pertaining to building code interpretation, fire code interpretation, and suitability of alternate materials and types of construction, and shall not be employees of the County.

The Board of Supervisors wishes to appoint at least one (1) registered civil engineer, one (1) licensed architect, and one (1) general building contractor with at least a Class B license to the Local Appeals Board. Members are to serve four (4) year terms.

The purpose of the Local Appeals Board is to hear and decide technical appeals from actions of the County’s Resource Management Agency (RMA) Director or Tulare County Fire Chief or their authorized representatives concerning application of Uniform Building or Uniform Fire Code standards. The jurisdiction of the Local Appeals Board shall also extend to any other matters that the Board of Supervisors, by ordinance or resolution, authorizes to the Local Appeals Board.

Each member shall receive twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for each meeting attended, but not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00) in any one (1) calendar month. The duties of the Local Appeals Board generally shall be as prescribed in section 1.8.8 of the California Building Code.

Local Appeals Board meetings will be held at the County Administrative Office, located at 2800 W. Burrel Avenue in Visalia.
