Tulare County Federal Appropriations Advance

Tulare County leaders traveled to Washington, D.C. in February, 2010 to meet with members of Congress and federal officials seeking support for public safety needs, to expand Tulare County's anti-gang initiative, advocate for flood control projects, rural water system improvements and transportation needs.

Following meetings with Tulare County Supervisors, U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer forwarded several County appropriations requests to Senate appropriations subcommittees.

"We are happy that we've made it to this very important next step," said Board Chairman Steve Worthley. "We will continue to follow up with the subcommittees as these items are considered for funding."

Board Vice Chairman Mike Ennis said he is very encouraged that both of California's Senators have included Tulare County projects in their federal appropriations requests.

"Our federal legislators get thousands of funding requests, so I'm really pleased that we made the short list with our projects," Supervisor Ennis said. "We worked really hard with our California delegation to get this far in the process."
