At their annual meeting Wednesday, the Workforce Investment Board of Tulare County (WIB) announced Carlene Estes as Employee of the Year. She is a supervisor of the Porterville Employment Connection’s training unit. “It was a very pleasant surprise,” said Mrs. Estes, who started with the WIB in July, 1990 as an Office Assistant.
“People who nominated her had really positive things to say about her,” said Adam Peck, Executive Director of the WIB. “She is a crucial part of the Porterville Employment Connection and we are a better organization with her.”
As part of her duties, Carlene coordinates the Skills and Training Team at the Porterville office. The team is comprised of staff members who provide assessments, workshops, and other training opportunities for jobseekers. She also was pivotal in the original development of the training team.
Some of the comments from nominating co-workers included:
• “Carlene is very efficient and is very detail oriented, and is upbeat and makes me feel that I understand my job even if I sometimes don’t feel that way.”
• “Because peer staff know they can count on Carlene for assistance, she is one of the sources of keeping everyone’s confidence level on an even keel.”
• “Because of her calm, smooth demeanor, Carlene inspires confidence in not only her staff, but in the partner relationships as well.”
• “She is a true leader who doesn’t shy away from handling day to day responsibilities in a very thorough and positive manner, and encourages the rest of us to represent our agency in a professional manner.”
• “She is a dedicated, loyal, hardworking employee and by everything I have witnessed over the years I have worked with her, she has given her all.”
