Tulare County’s History of Farm Labor and Agriculture Museum at Mooney Grove Park in Visalia will premiere a new exhibit exploring the contributions to Tulare County agriculture made by Mexican farm workers.
The exhibit, “Hands of Harvest: The Mexican Farm Worker Experience in Tulare County,” will debut from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 14. In conjunction with the new exhibit, the City of Visalia will be hosting its 20th Annual Dia del Nino event. The event will include live entertainment, bounce houses and information booths. Admission to the park and museum will be free.
This exhibit will highlight the Mexican farm worker experience in Tulare County with an emphasis on the Bracero Program. The exhibit will feature historical photographs, a replica of a domestic dwelling, life-size figures created by local artist Leticia Valencia-Martinez, music representative of the time period, an authentic Visalia saddle, as well as a museum garden with local crops.
Deputy Consul Carlos García Delgado from the Mexican Consulate in Fresno along with Joe Ruiz, Rosario Gomez, Rusty Morán and Daniel Caudillo will share their experiences during a brief program held at 1 p.m. Also, a video presentation, “Mexican Farm Worker Experiences in Tulare County”, will be available in the Museum Learning Center.
