Storms prompt Tulare County's EOC to activate

March 23, 2011

Due to the recent storm activity and potential impacts to residents, Tulare County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been soft activated, County Administrative Officer Jean Rousseau announced Wednesday.

Rousseau, who also serves as EOC Director, called for this soft activation at 9 a.m. A soft activation is a precautionary measure which prompts county Office of Emergency Services staff to monitor existing flooding issues and impacts from current storm systems.

“Keeping a close eye on potential impacts is important to ensure the safety of Tulare County’s residents,” Rousseau said. “Should there be any impacts, we will send important resources in a timely manner.”

The National Weather Service reports that observed conditions throughout the morning have been on par with the forecast, with areas of light to occasionally moderate rainfall across the County.

There are currently no active significant events.

County staff toured areas of the north county this morning, which did not reveal significant flooding issues. In addition, more than 800 sandbags were delivered to fire stations in Cutler-Orosi, Three Rivers, Lemon Cove, and Springville.
