The Tulare County Board of Supervisors today appointed Undersheriff Mike Boudreaux as acting Sheriff, effective October 6.
The appointment as acting Sheriff followed the Friday, October 4 announcement from longtime Sheriff Bill Wittman that he is taking a medical leave of absence. A time frame for Sheriff Wittman’s return has not been determined.
Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Pete Vander Poel said he is confident acting Sheriff Boudreaux will do a good job.
“It’s exciting to see the tremendous outpouring of support from the Sheriff’s Department for this decision,” Chairman Vander Poel said. “I know this has been a difficult time for the department seeing Sheriff Wittman’s medical condition – it came unexpected to all of us.”
Speaking to the Board of Supervisors, acting Sheriff Boudreaux thanked the Board, Sheriff Wittman, and the law enforcement personnel that attended the meeting.
“I would like to express Sheriff Wittman’s health is the most important thing,” Sheriff Boudreaux said. “We are expecting a speedy recovery and we hope in the near future that he can return to the seat that you sat me in today.”
