Over 1,200 County employees attended the ninth annual Health and Wellness Fair, themed “Going for Gold Medal Health”. This year’s Fair was held at the Visalia Convention Center on Thursday, September 29, 2016.
Employees in attendance received free blood pressure checks, flu shots, free glucose testing, body composition testing, and chair. The HHSA Immunization Program administered 721 flu shots and 18 units of blood were drawn by the Central CA Blood Center.
There were 44 health vendors and employee discount partners that participated by sharing information on a broad range of topics related to prevention, intervention, and a healthy lifestyle. Many of the booths had interesting displays including the County Animal Services with kittens available for adoption, Friends of Tulare County with their 3D Headset Glasses, Risk Management with hands on distracted driving demonstrations, and The Weight and Health Clinic with Healthy Portion demonstrations.
Fresh oranges, pistachios, and almonds were donated from Wonderful Citrus and many vendors offered various give-aways, including bags from U.S. Script and Anthem Blue Cross.
Interactive demonstrations were offered this year. The County’s Sheriff Department shared a demonstration performed by two deputies and a K-9 partner, named Daisy. In addition, In-shape hosted a Zumba demonstration on stage to showcase different exercise classes available.
The breakout session “Emotional Eating”, gave employees insight on how to control emotional eating and understand triggers and ways to control it. “Emotional Eating” was presented by Ruben Andujoe with Anthem EAP.
