Celebrate the Chinese New Year - Chinese Exhibit Reception at the Tulare County Museum

On Saturday, February 11, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. join us at the Tulare County Museum to celebrate together as we host our newest cultural exhibit just in time for the Chinese New Year. “Happiness, Prosperity, Longevity: Chinese Experiences in Tulare County” is the eleventh exhibit in the rotating series of cultural exhibits to be displayed in the gallery of the Tulare County History of Farm Labor & Agriculture Museum.

This museum is a bit different from most agricultural museums in that it focuses on the people and the contributions that these cultural groups have made to agriculture in Tulare County, rather than solely farming equipment.

This exhibit includes a variety of Chinese artifacts and heirloom items from members of our local Chinese community. It also includes a number of photos that bring to life their family histories, what brought them to the Central Valley, and how they have contributed to our rich culture in Tulare County.

Accompanying the exhibit is a video produced by the Tulare County Office of Education that features local community members sharing their family history. In the video you will be introduced to Joe Sing, Lawrence Chan, Lori Luna, Raymond Chun, and Wayne Chun.

The reception will begin with an oration by Kay Speaks and Margaret Moholt that will illuminate their family history, Chinese heritage, and how it has shaped their lives in America. Virginia Pilegard, a local children’s author, will have her books available for purchase and signing.

Experience the exquisite Chinese brush painting technique. Enjoy authentic Chinese food provided by Zen Asian Diner. This exhibit will leave you with new knowledge about our local community, well wishes for the New Year, and a fortune cookie!
