Tulare County community members are invited to attend the 2018 World Elder Abuse Awareness Flag Ceremony at Visalia’s Government Plaza, 5957 S. Mooney Boulevard – Northeast Lawn, on Tuesday, June 19, at 9:00 a.m. Speakers will include Supervisor Amy Shuklian of the Tulare County Board of Supervisors and Tim Ward, District Attorney.

Details: June is World Elder Abuse Awareness Month. Each report of elder abuse in Tulare County will be recognized with a purple flag placed on the front lawn of Government Plaza, with the hope of bringing awareness of elder abuse and the need for increased prevention. There were more than 2,820 reports of elder abuse or neglect in 2016–2017, which is a 1% increase from the 2,737 reports in 2015–2016.
Partnerships with the Tulare County Board of Supervisors, Kings/Tulare Area Agency on Aging, Tulare County Sheriff, Tulare County Police Departments (Exeter, Porterville, Farmersville, Tulare, Dinuba, and Visalia), Tulare County District Attorney, Probation, Tulare County Superior Court, Community Services Employment Training (CSET), Family Services, local hospitals and medical practitioners, and other law enforcement agencies make investigations of elder abuse possible.
