Student Winners of Art Contest Have Art Displayed on County Digital Signs

Three local youth are winners of an art contest held by the Tulare County Health & Human Services agency at the Tulare County Office of Education’s Night at the 21st Century Museum, held on Tuesday, April 2. The contest, held by the HHSA’s Public Health Branch to promote Healthy Tulare County Week, challenged students to create art for an authentic audience on the theme of healthy communities.

Photos of the winners have been posted to the HHSA Facebook and Twitter accounts, and their art is being pictured on digital signs at various HHSA locations throughout Tulare County during the month of April. The winners are:

  • First place: Miami Lee, 6th Grade, University Charter School
  • Second place: Aurora Whitt, 3rd Grade, Blue Oak Academy
  • Third place: Averie Stinson, 1st Grade, Sycamore Valley Academy

TCOE’s 21st Century Night at the Museum showcased examples of project-based learning (PBL) along with opportunities for students to network and explore different pathway programs. PBL, through the Buck Institute for Education, prepares students for academic, personal, and career success by working to respond to real-world and complex questions, issues, challenges, or product creation. Students develop skills in problem identification and investigation, reflection, project development, and communication.

HHSA became the real-world client for these elementary, middle, and high school students, and their products honor Healthy Tulare County Week by helping to convey to the community what a Healthy Tulare County means to them.

Made possible by a partnership between the Tulare County Office of Education and the Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency.
